UC Merced Early Childhood Education Center
This LEED Gold modular Child Care Center was the first LEED-certified modular building in the U.S. This teaching and research school features observation rooms where researchers and students can observe classrooms without disturbing children and teachers. The “Garden School” design concept organizes school activities around sunny garden spaces. Kitchen spaces between classrooms allow social interactions between teachers, researchers and students. The building relies on daylight and natural ventilation. Passive solar orientation brings sun into classrooms in summer but keeps it out in the winter.
